Come into the theatre rehearsal room with NIE at The Junction in Cambridge to see the creative process for the Christmas show and then hear about their creative learning and engagement projects with young people.Michael will follow up with some practical techniques and games, discuss the devising process and talk through NIE’s creative learning and engagement projects which use different art forms to support the needs of young people.
New International Encounter (NIE) is a successful international and multilingual theatre company based at Cambridge Junction creating engaging and accessible work through storytelling, live music and humour as ‘playful stories connect us all’. They have performed shows in 32 countries across 4 continents over the last 17 years and also run educational learning projects with young people to support attainment and well-being.
Their popular family Christmas shows have received 4 star reviews from The Times, The Telegraph and the Guardian and one has now got a transfer to 42nd street, New York this autumn.
NIE works with an ensemble of actor/ musicians and their shows are developed through a devising process in the rehearsal room where the story is created together. The process encourages playfulness and team work as the company learn about each other and develop as a group to tell a shared story.
Michael Judge is the Associate Director of NIE.Michael has previously been Associate with Dundee Rep, Theatre Centre, The Royal Opera House and with the British Council in Brazil. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
